A Lady getting Injection on jawline | Know About Masseter Reductions in Beauty Boost Med Spa at Newport Beach, CA

Many patients come to Beauty Boost Med Spa because they are unhappy with their jawline. Teeth grinding, unconscious jaw clenching, and natural anatomy can all combine to give someone an undesirable round or square-shaped jawline.

Luckily, this problem is easy to fix! With a simple procedure at our Med Spa in Orange County, you can reduce the size of your jawline and slim your face via Botox masseter reduction.

What Are Masseters?

The masseters are the two bulky muscles on each side of your jaw. They help you chew and have a large impact on the shape of your jawline.

If you have enlarged masseters, you may have an undesired square jawline that may give off a masculine appearance. Masseter reduction is an effective procedure to help you achieve a slimmer or more feminine facial appearance.

What Causes Enlarged Masseters?

Enlarged or hypertrophic masseter muscles are often caused by teeth grinding, hard chewing, or unconsciously clenching the jaw. In some cases, large jaw muscles are just part of the person’s normal anatomy, but habitual overuse can cause the masseters to become even more prominent.

Over time, overuse of the jaw muscles through grinding or clenching alters the shape of the lower face. Many people develop an unwanted square jawline or a more masculine overall appearance. Unfortunately, many of the behaviors that result in larger masseters are difficult to stop on your own! The National Sleep Foundation reports that 8% of adults grind their teeth while sleeping.

Enlarged masseter muscles are not purely a cosmetic issue. Many people with bruxism, or unconscious teeth grinding, experience pain in the jawline or cheeks. Previously, this pain could only be treated with physiotherapy or special splints, but today there are additional treatment options.

What Is Masseter Reduction?

In 2020, patients can have their masseters reduced using a simple relaxer injection procedure. The relaxer shrinks the masseter muscle over time by reducing the muscle’s movement, and therefore its exertion. This reduced exertion allows the muscle to shrink and obtain a less prominent size and shape.

This relaxer can help you avoid any harmful behaviors that caused an enlarged masseter in the first place. It will help prevent you from grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw as much without impacting your ability to chew.

At Beauty Boost, we use BOTOX® Cosmetic to reduce the size of patients’ masseters. BOTOX® Cosmetic does not freeze the muscles or interfere with chewing, but rather relaxes the masseters so they are not overexerted in daily activities.

Masseter reductions generally require larger amounts of BOTOX® Cosmetic than other BOTOX® procedures, such as wrinkle treatments. However, you will need less BOTOX® in future treatments and will be able to space out treatments more over time.

How Lond Does Masseter Botox Last?

With decreased exertion, you will see visible masseter reduction and facial slimming within 4 to 6 weeks. The results generally last 3 to 4 months, after which you can get another round of treatment. Results improve significantly over the first year of treatment.

There’s no downtime after a BOTOX® masseter reduction. You should experience minimal discomfort, with many patients reporting no pain at all.

What Else Should I Know About BOTOX® Masseter Reductions?

You should not experience muscles “freezing” or difficulties with using your mouth and jaw. Some people report feeling a bit different while chewing tough foods like steak right after treatment, but you should have no difficulty with chewing.

At Beauty Boost Med Spa in Newport Beach, BOTOX® masseter treatments are carried out by only the most qualified injectors. Your treatment will begin with an initial consultation in which we will closely examine your face and ask detailed questions about your desired outcomes. You can rest assured that every treatment will be safe, discreet, and highly professional.
