What Are Masseters?
The masseters are the two bulky muscles on each side of your jaw. They help you chew and have a large impact on the shape of your jawline.
If you have enlarged masseters, you may have an undesired square jawline that may give off a masculine appearance. Masseter reduction is an effective procedure to help you achieve a slimmer or more feminine facial appearance.
What Causes Enlarged Masseters?
Enlarged or hypertrophic masseter muscles are often caused by teeth grinding, hard chewing, or unconsciously clenching the jaw. In some cases, large jaw muscles are just part of the person’s normal anatomy, but habitual overuse can cause the masseters to become even more prominent.

The relaxer shrinks the masseter muscle over time by reducing the muscle’s movement, and therefore its exertion. This reduced exertion allows the muscle to shrink and obtain a less prominent size and shape.
This relaxer can help you avoid any harmful behaviors that caused an enlarged masseter in the first place. It will help prevent you from grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw as much without impacting your ability to chew.
At Beauty Boost, we use BOTOX® Cosmetic to reduce the size of patients’ masseters. BOTOX® Cosmetic does not freeze the muscles or interfere with chewing, but rather relaxes the masseters so they are not overexerted in daily activities.
Masseter reductions generally require larger amounts of BOTOX® Cosmetic than other BOTOX® procedures, such as wrinkle treatments. However, you will need less BOTOX® in future treatments and will be able to space out treatments more over time.
How Lond Does Masseter Botox Last?
With decreased exertion, you will see visible masseter reduction and facial slimming within 4 to 6 weeks. The results generally last 3 to 4 months, after which you can get another round of treatment. Results improve significantly over the first year of treatment.
